Don't buy
I'm an engineer, so of course I have 3 different thermometers (don't we all?), and the thermometers all agree: this fryer doesn't work. Given that we've been using automatic temperature controls for about a century, and that the state of the art is a reliability of about 99.9% (these are pretty simple devices), any failure indicates the entire product line is suspect (they buy the components from the same factory, no matter what the model). The unit is rated for 375 degrees, and would not heat past 305, which makes it useless. For me, this is "one strike and you're out", so won't buy anything from P-S that uses electricity. They should stick to measuring cups.
Perfect for one or two people, but watch the power light.
I purchased this fryer through a rewards point system at work so I'd have a smaller unit to use when the hubby is away. He's a truck driver and gone a lot so I'm usually just making dinner for me and the dogs. We have a larger fryer, but I didn't like having to wait for it to heat up and using all that electricity for just a handful of food, so I picked this up. It was free, after all.
It works quite well for the size, comparable to the old-style Fry Daddy I used to have, but easier to clean and the lid doesn't melt if you put it on too quickly like the Fry Daddy plastic lid would!
My only major complaint, and it may just be MY fryer that does this, is that the power light doesn't indicate when the fryer is at temp. You can kinda tell by listening to the clicks as it turns the heating element on and off, but the only real way to tell if it's up to temp is to measure it or drop in a "Test Piece" of food. Since it's hard to get an accurate measurement on only a...
Not helpful in my kitchen
I was set to use this one day and found the cord to be less than 23 inches long, not quite enough to use from my stove top as I prefer
not to risk damaging heat on counter tops. Because the magnetic pot connection is aimed downward there is a loss of about 2 inches in length there, so that leaves about 21 inches to make it to my outlet, not acceptable. Even if used on the counter top it would mean smoky oils would be drifting upward to my cabinets, not worth the risk of damage. I really don't think that less than 30 inches is acceptable in an appliance cord, safety issues or not! I ended up using my cast iron Dutch oven which worked well though difficult to maintain proper oil temperature on the stove top. I am rethinking whether it is worth it to buy a different brand to use on the back porch as the smell from frying definitely permeated my entire house.
